метод передачи данных, в котором каждый знак передаётся с предшествующим стартовым битом (start bit) и последующим стоповым битом (stop bit), что позволяет передавать знаки через нерегулярные интервалы времени между ними, с различными частотами и фазами сигналов. Этот метод имеет ряд преимуществ, когда передача носит нерегулярный характер
